Comic Review: Wolverine; Origin and the End.

Hello views of both my blog and any would take the time to read an opinion blog! Today I am reviewing Wolverine: Origin and Wolverine: The End (both are trade paper back), seeing since they work well together.

Let's start with Origin. Everyone knows that Wolverine is pretty messed up because of his past. This comic shows you what happened. What I am most impressed with this comic is 1) It's art style and 2) The way it is written. For the art, every colour, every facial expression (especially the one with Wolverine's mother and the shotgun, which freaks me out a little every time I see it) is fused with the story. Every panel just looks really great and even the shading is appropriate to the scene in every way. The writing, is clear and concise, with no plot holes or no loose end(except for a small reference to THE END). The best part about the story is Wolverine doesn't start out as the bad ass that he is now. At first he's small, quiet, sickly, and later on mimics those around him, gaining a personality through that. There is a very limited amount of fighting (at least in superhero terms) and moreso tells the story of how Wolvie gets there by letting time pass. The only thing that you really have to believe is that Wolverine hasn't stopped aging yet, as the entire story takes place when hes a kid. The end of the story works extremely well because we know what happens to him... and that he eventually forgets everything. All in all, I think that this is sets a high standard for modern day super-comics.

As for Wolverine: The End. I would say, although cool, not as great as Origin. The End takes Wolverine to his last few years of life. The story feels that there is too much the reader doesn't know about Wolverine's future... if that makes any sense. For instance, one thing that bothers me, is that Wolverines one claw is broken? How could it break? It's adimantium! And the bone claw would at least grow back... I'm sorry that doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. Anyway... he's an old man, paranoid and delusional that the government is still after him; but he still is the crazy Wolvie with hair and claws that people love! The art has more Ink for shading and is really different from Origin's paint like pictures, which isn't bad... but by comparison it feels less impressive right off the start. Now, Wolverine, nearing over 200 years old, meets his brother, who has been following him for that long time (although I didn't see him in Days Future Past, or Secret Wars, or even House of M) evading mystic, telekentic and even technological scanners... but whatever, I'll believe it. Now, whereas Origin had very little fighting, but huge plot, the End does the complete opposite with Wolverine and his brother, John, fighting constantly. As much as I love a good Wolverine scrap, seeing two people who heal off every wound in seconds can get a little tiring. Eventually, Wolverine impales his brother, and John dies. And my final problem arises, Wolverine just lies there with his brother crying, and it ends. There is no clear ending. For example, in Hulk: The End, you know it's the end because if the Hulk transforms into Banner, hes dead. In Spider-man Reign, Spidey gets back into the action, being 60 years old. But for Wolverine, he just ends up arrested? I don't know... Maybe I wanted to see him die (which is sort of a downer). But don't let my opinion ruin you're take on the End, it's still pretty neat, and that's some good old fashion Wolverine there!


In conclusion, I definitley did not regret buying these books! They were absoutly amazing and fit into each other very well. But Origin is certainly the better out of the two.

What's so wrong with Daredevil?

Everyone loves Spider-man... they want to be him... they want to watch him fly with Web-shooters and "THWIP!" the bad guys... Same thing with Wolverine... SNIKT SNIKT SNIKT!!! and everyone is on the ground bleeding to death by stab wounds.

But you know who else is pretty damn cool and does not get his credit when it's due? It's DAREDEVIL... The Man Without Fear! The reason I like Daredevil so much is because he is out there in his part of town stoping injustice (by a very just way... beating the baddies into submission along with breaking their limbs) everyday! No he doesn't take on GLOBAL THREATS like the pushover Avengers, lead by Shield Director Tony "Hey I'm a Drunk" Stark... or duke it out with Magneto for the 30 thousandth time.... BUT DAMNIT HE ROCKS! What I like most about the Devil is that he stays away from the politics of Superheroes, away from the democratic choas of Team Organizations and saves the city one thug at a time.

And why does everyone hate his powers? He can hear a persons heartrate from two streets over, sense suddon drops in atmopsheric pressure and has a better smell sense than Wolverine could ever hope for. So what if he's blind. He doesn't need it because all of his other senses form the targets he needs to pummel. Other than that, he is just a man... perhaps like Batman?? All he uses is his olympic style prowless combined with his simplistic form of travel (He jumps rooftops and then swings via cable from building to building) to get where he needs to be then beats his competetion with his heavy duty muscles.

And lets not forget his morals!!! Does he let his anger take over? Will he ever kill somebody? Does he actually help the citizens of Hell's Kitchen?

Plus I like it when he fights the Kingpin... Everyone likes the Kingpin.

And there you have it... Daredevil, although not as popular as other Marvel characters, is wildey underestimated

What I don't get about the Skrulls...

Ok so I've been reading this "Secret Invasion" event that Marvel Comics has started to unfold. And personally I don't get it. I think its a cool idea that the skrulls have started to invade Earth, however what I don't understand is how the characters in the marvel universe can be so easily tricked. Most definity I look at Reed Richards, the smartest man in most of the Universe. Not only is he so smart he would easily figure out what is going on, but he has FOUGHT the skrulls numerious times. Reed, in a matter of minutes, could devise a 'skrull detecting' ray of some kind and see once and for all who or who is not a skrull. Not to mention that the skrulls still do not fully grasp every human aspect in terms of behaviour and emotion... it would be so easy to indentify a skrull by the way they act(those overconfident bastards!)

As for manifesting ALL THE POWERS of any hero, that I find a bit of a stretch... For instance, I sincerily doubt that anyone could impersonate the Hulk because of his unmatched power (If he is still around, I didn't read World War Hulk yet). Thor would be easy to detect if he is a skrull or not just by lifting his hammer, if you can't lift it, it is mystical and he is Thor of Odin. Spider-man can't possibly be a skrull because of the "brand new day" saga that is happening in his own comic. Do the skrulls know how his Spider-sense work? Trust me, Mephestio would know who is who. As for Wolverine, do you know how complicated he is??? His healing factor alone is rediculous, but what about his devine sense of smell? If Daredevil accidently mentions anything about being able to actually see... he is a skrull. If Iron-man almost dies without his armour, then he is real. Do the Skrulls actually know how pheromenoes work with Spider-woman (aka Jessica Drew) and how she can manipulate men with her powers? Even Luke Cage's attitude and powers are difficult to duplicate, can skrulls copy the powers of an unbreakable man? And how can skrulls duplicate Dr. Stranges KNOWLEDGE, not even magic, but KNOWLEDGE of the mystical arts. The Skrulls would need to know every single enchantment.

I personally think that to replace ANYONE with a Skrull is a stretch. When you think about how diverse and complex alot of the main characters powers work, I don't know, maybe they should look at the weaker charcters with no outstanding powers who were like Electra first, because by that time Richards will find out how the skrulls can copy every ability.

What the hell was with Yellow Jacket being a Skrull? Obivously if he is best friends with Stark and Richard, they would be able to tell just because they hang out a lot. Skrulls aren't that brilliant of actors.
